Witnesses: SUV Slams Into Front Of Jersey City Dunkin Donuts

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- At least seven people were taken to area hospitals Monday night after an SUV crashed into the front of a Dunkin' Donuts, police said.

The accident happened at the doughnut shop located on Central Avenue in the heart of the Heights section of Jersey City.

Shattered glass, shoes and all kinds of debris were strewn all over inside and on the road in front of the restaurant, CBS 2's Derricke Dennis reported.

Witnesses said at least two people were pinned inside the vehicle as it slammed into the front of the building. Witnesses said the SUV was moving at a high rate of speed and appeared to be out of control.

"He tried to make it a drive-thru, it looked like. And there were people sitting in the front of the restaurant," Bill Lewandowski said.

Witnesses said you could hear the screams from inside the Dunkin Donuts all the way down the block and even several blocks away.

The vehicle involved in the crash was towed away, CBS 2's Dennis reported. Crews were seen working to board up the building.

There was no immediate word on the conditions of the injured.
