Country singer Lee Ann Womack has suddenly found herself without a home. A record company home that is. After being with MCA Records since 2000, Lee Ann parted ways with the label earlier this month.
When Lee Ann first moved to Nashville, she was enrolled at Belmont University and eventually landed a record deal with Universal Music Group’s Decca label. In 2000, Lee Ann moved over to sister label, MCA Nashville Records, where she has been until recently.
She scored seven Top 10 hits between 1997 and 2005. Her biggest hit, “I Hope You Dance,” spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Country chart and a was a huge cross over hit with multi-format success.
It’s been quite awhile since we’ve heard new music from the Texas singer. Her last album, Call Me Crazy, was back in 2008.
Back in April, it was announced that she was back in the studio recording songs for an upcoming album tentatively titled The Way I’m Living. Womack was even set to debut some of these songs during a special fan-club-only soundcheck party. Now, it remains to be seen on whether or not that album will see the light of day.
There must be something in the water in Nashville because Lee Ann isn’t the only one to separate from MCA. Newcomer Ashton Shepherd is also now off of the MCA roster.
In fact, it appears that Nashville labels have been doing a bit of cleaning house in recent months.
Back in June, Kellie Pickler split with her label BNA, and coincidentally Ronnie Dunn left Sony the same month. Josh Thompson also just left RCA Records.
