Police: 13-Year-Old Shot, Killed In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed in Brooklyn.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Tapscott Street and Blake Avenue in Brownsville. The victim, Ronald Wallace, was shot once in the back, police said.

The teen was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center where he later died.

The victim's mother, Tiffany Orr, said she had pleaded with the housing authority to put them in a better neighborhood.

"I told them I wanted to leave and they said, 'No, it's bad everywhere,'" Orr said. "If they would've just moved me, my son would still be here with me. I'm hurt."

Police recovered a gun at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
