Sabathia Unconcerned By Health, Velocity Worries

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - CC Sabathia's velocity is down by about two miles per hour.  The Yankees' ace has been troubled by elbow issues throughout the season, but Sabathia and the Yankees maintain he's healthy.

Girardi trusts that Sabathia is healthy enough to take the ball and isn't pitching through an injury.  The Yankees' manager believes if Sabathia was injured, it would show in a significant decrease in velocity.

"I think [an injury] would manifest itself in less velocity than what he's throwing," Girardi told MLB.co. "You wouldn't see the 94s and 95s that you see. I ask every day. We put him through the tests that we put him through when his elbow was hurt. He doesn't have that pain."

Sabathia was hit hard by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.  Over 6.1 innings pitched, CC gave up 8 hits, three home runs and five earned runs.

In each of his last three starts, Sabathia has blown Yankee leads in games the Yankees went on to lose.

His health will be a major factor in determining whether the Yankees win the AL East, clinch a Wild Card berth or miss the playoffs entirely.
