Jet Makes Emergency Landing At Westchester County Airport

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A jet with seven people on board had to circle Westchester County Airport Tuesday afternoon before making an emergency landing.

The private Lear jet, which an airport spokeswoman said faced a landing gear problem, was en route to Nebraska after taking off from Westchester when a signal light went off.

The aircraft, owned by a company from Norwalk, took off around 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.  Shortly after leaving Westchester County Airport, one of the two engines started to malfunction, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

The pilot radioed the tower at Newburgh stating they were coming in for a landing, but they instead flew around for about 30 minutes trying to burn off some of the fuel, 1010 WINS' Jones reported.

Westchester Police Spokesman Kieran O'Leary told 1010 WINS that the plane landed safely around 4 p.m.
