National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Offers 250 Sites Across New York

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - New Yorkers had a chance to safely get rid of prescription drugs they didn't want or need at drop-off locations across the state on Saturday.

Health, environmental and law enforcement agencies helped organize the effort as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

There were about 250 sites open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take in the drugs for proper disposal.

Information about local sites is available here.

Authorities said there are many reasons to drop off drugs, including child safety and keeping them out of the environment.
