Police: Man Suspected Of Syringe Attack On Bus Driver Arrested

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police said they have arrested the man wanted for attacking a New York City bus driver with a syringe.

Shelwyn Patt, 53, was arrested aboard a B67 bus Saturday afternoon, just a few feet away from the wanted poster bearing his sketch, police said.

On Saturday, veteran bus driver Jose Rivera discreetly flagged down a Brooklyn patrol car and told officers he thought the suspect was on board, 1010 WINS reported. Police handcuffed Patt and charged him with attacking a B68 bus driver last month.

Driver Mark Anthony Salandy, 30, was stabbed in the shoulder with a syringe as he drove a B68 bus through Windsor Terrace on the morning of Sept. 24. The incident took place on Prospect Park West near Greenwood Avenue at around 11 a.m.

The incident, and others on bus drivers, led the union to call for greater safety measures like partitions for city bus drivers.
