Police: L.I. Man Threatened To Blow Up Community Center With Nuclear Bombs

INWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man has been arrested after threatening to bomb a community center, police said.

Neil Thompson, of Inwood, walked into the Five Towns Community Center on Lawrence Ave. around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday and told a witness sitting at the front desk that he had nuclear bombs and was going to blow the place up, police said.

About five minutes earlier, the 33-year-old was seen in a parking lot smashing a car window and then kicking another vehicle, denting the car, police said.

Police found Thompson on the second floor of the community center and placed him under arrest at 10:35 a.m.

Thompson is being charged with falsely reporting an incident.

A search of Thompson's house turned up materials used to make fireworks, police said. It is not illegal to possess those materials, police said.
