Country legend George Strait is starting his Cowboy Rides Away Tour in January of 2013, and tickets for select cities are now on sale starting today (October 12). They are expected to sell out quickly, so if you want to see George on this last large-scale go-round, don’t miss your chance.

Concert dates on sale to the general public today include stops in Lubbock, Salt Lake City, Fresno, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Albuquerque, and Greensboro. Additional cities will go on sale next week. (Note that fan club members and those purchasing VIP packages are offered early access to tickets.)

Strait will play 20 dates on this tour in 2013, and another 20 in 2014. Martina McBride is signed on as the supporting act on the full two-year tour.

Strait’s 30-plus years in the business have been an exciting time for the singer, who has had more Number One singles than any artist ever in history–59 to date, not to mention 33 platinum albums. That’s more than another artist who’s also been dubbed “King,” Elvis Presley.

Strait has assured us this is not a full-on retirement tour, or a final farewell, just what is almost certainly his last large-scale concert tour.

“I’m still going to make records, I’m going to write,” he said during a press conference in Nashville last month. And occasional live performances aren’t out of the question, either. “If a special event comes up that I want to do, by all means I’m going to do it.”

Strait left us this heartfelt message.
