Twitter User Wins Contest To Find Ice Cream Shop's Second Planned Location

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The suspense has ended about Big Gay Ice Cream's site for its second shop, after the company confirmed that a Twitter user found and photographed the correct vacant West Village storefront.

Big Gay Ice Cream currently has one location, at 125 E. 7th St. in the East Village. The company announced last week that it will open a second location, but did not disclose where the shop would be.

Instead, co-founder Douglas Quint urged Twitter users to see if they could spot the location themselves – despite a lack of any signage or other identifying information.

"The location has no signs up yet, but an eagle-eyed pedestrian might able to spot a clue in the paper-covered windows," Quint said in the company's blog. "See if you can find it. If you do, take a close-up photo of the clue and also a photo of the whole storefront."

The first person to find the location and tweet the photos was offered, along with seven friends, "enough ice cream to make your heads explode."

On Tuesday morning, Twitter user Amanda Au took Big Gay Ice Cream up on its offer and tweeted the correct photos. One photo showed a papered-over storefront, while the other showed a small card with a drawing of the unicorn mascot that appears in mural form at the East Village location.

Big Gay Ice Cream confirmed in a Tuesday morning tweet that Au was the "WINNER!!!" and that the new location would be at 7th Avenue and Grove Street in the West Village.

Big Gay Ice Cream was founded by Quint and Bryan Petroff, and began an ice cream truck run rolling the streets of New York City in 2009. The East Village brick-and-mortar location opened in the summer of 2011.

No opening date for the new West Village shop has been specified, although Eater.com said it could open "in a matter of weeks."
