Some Of The Relief Effort In The Rockaways Remains Disorganized
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Rockaways, bounded by water, remain devastated nearly a week after superstorm Sandy pummeled the Tri-State Area.
Some people lost their homes and everything inside in the storm surge.

Residents thought back to last Sunday when life was still normal, just a day before Sandy devastated the area.
"I was sitting in my friend's club in Middle Village watching football, enjoying myself," one man told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.
"Last Sunday was beautiful, it was sunny. We went to church, we sang, we ate Sunday dinner over a hot stove that the heat in the stove worked. And this Sunday is like, we look like we're in Africa. I'm confused. And this is New York City yet again. Unbelievable," said another resident of the Rockaways.

There is a lack of organization is getting resources together for those in need, Haskell reported.
There are many people bringing clothing, toilet paper and cases of water, among other goods, but do not know where to deliver the items, Haskell reported.
The items have wound up in large piles on the street and those affected by Sandy come by and pick up what they need.
Meantime, a front-end loader from the Department of Sanitation spent the morning plowing planks of wood that used to be the boardwalk.
On Saturday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg slammed LIPA for not getting power restored on the Rockaways. The mayor said that should be the top priority for the utility.
