MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Two weeks after superstorm Sandy made landfall in New Jersey and devastated much of the Tri-State Area, good news has finally come for Jersey Central Power & Light customers who were still without power and heat.

The utility said as of 11 p.m. Sunday, all but 24 customers affected by Superstorm Sandy had had their power restored. The storm affected service to 1.7 million of the utility’s 2.2 million electric customers.
A total of 336 customers remained without power from the nor’easter Wednesday night.
JCP&L said customers on the barrier islands will be without power indefinitely because the homes are too damaged to have electricity restored and are currently uninhabitable.
As of midday Sunday, less than 14,000 customers were without power. In the cases where customers whose power has not yet been restored, service wires to individual homes had to be replaced, according to the utility.
The restoration effort following Sandy was complicated by last week’s nor’easter, JCP&L officials said.
According to JCP&L, Sandy and the nor’easter did more damage to the utility’s infrastructure than Hurricane Irene and last year’s October snowstorm combined.
