MTA Announces Schedule Changes On A Number Of LIRR Lines Ahead Of Work Week

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a weekday schedule on ten of its eleven branches starting on Monday.

Temporary repairs to an East River Amtrak tunnel have allowed for the reopening of a number of lines but with a reduced number of trains able to travel through the tunnel.

The LIRR will cancel or divert certain trains during morning and evening rush hours, as Amtrak works to make permanent repairs to the tunnel through the end of the year.

Service along the Long Beach Branch remains suspended and has been replaced with bus service. For changes to the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Montauk, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson/Huntington, Port Washington, Ronkonkoma, and West Hempstead branches you can check the MTA website.

In addition to planned schedule changes the LIRR will be opening the Long Beach Comfort Station from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Customers will have access to power strips to charge cell phones and other electronic devices.
