NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – We all saw this coming.

Predicted from Denver to Cortland to the West Wing, the Jets’ Mark Sanchez-Tim Tebow quarterback controversy has all but boiled over. To some, the answer is obvious — one way or another. To others it’s merely a choice between two evils.

To Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, it’s a self-inflicted wound, brought on by one “huge mistake.”

Trading for Tebow, that is.

“The Jets’ people brought this problem on themselves,” Bradshaw told WFAN co-hosts Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Tuesday. “They were never satisfied. For whatever reason they had to have Tim Tebow. Huge mistake. His body of work in Denver didn’t warrant the fact that he came to the Jets — look at the chaos that it’s created, people wanting this guy to play.

“You know what? I don’t know him, but he just can’t play. That’s my opinion.”

That’s not to say Bradshaw is a die-hard believer in Sanchez. He said the fifth-overall pick in the 2009 draft is “not a difference-maker” and was more deserving of a second-round selection.

Bradshaw said the Jets have plenty of problems beyond the quarterback position: “That whole football team is bad!”

But if you read the papers or listen to sports talk radio, it’s all Tebow versus Sanchez, with a sprinkle of third-stringer Greg McElroy.

“They created this monster and they’ve gotta shut it up,” said Bradshaw. “Now the season is shot. Now your season is shot, so what are you gonna do? You gonna put Tebow in and let him — yeah, put him in! You know what? Put him in. I don’t think Mark would mind, just put him in, let it go, ‘If it’s over with (and) you want to move me, move me.'”

Earlier, Jets defensive end Mike DeVito praised Sanchez as a “great leader,” and wouldn’t speculate on how the locker room would react if Tebow was named New York’s starter.

“It hasn’t happened,” DeVito told Benigno and Roberts. “That’s one of those bridges I think we’ll cross if it ever came to that. But as of right now, Mark’s our guy. The coaches trust him and we trust him.”
