Report: Jets Sign Running Back Kahlil Bell

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com confirmed this afternoon that the New York Jets have signed free agent running back Kahlil Bell.

Earlier today, the Jets worked out Bell and fellow free agent running back Steve Slaton.  The Jets opted to sign Bell and made room on their roster by releasing outside linebacker Aaron Maybin.

Bell rushed for 32 yards on 12 carries for the Bears in 2012 before being released by Chicago on October 15.

He went undrafted in 2009 and was waived by the Minnesota Vikings before signing on with the Bears.  Bell has rushed for 589 yards on 131 rushing attempts over three seasons in Chicago.

The Jets currently rank 16th in the NFL with 106.9 yards per game on the ground.  Kick returner Joe McKnight did not play in  Sunday's 28-7 loss to the Seahawks.
