Police: Jon Bon Jovi's Daughter Stephanie Recovering After Heroin Overdose

CLINTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A favorite son of New Jersey tirelessly performs, both musically and charitably.

So, fans of Jon Bon Jovi were feeling especially heartbroken for him Wednesday after learning his daughter, Stephanie, was facing drug charges, after apparently overdosing on heroin at her college in upstate New York, CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported.

Stephanie is the oldest of the iconic rocker's four children, and was arrested by the police in Kirkland, Kevin Frazier, host of The Insider, reported.

Stephanie remained hospitalized after she was found unresponsive Wednesday morning at Hamilton College. Investigators reportedly also found heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the dorm, which led to her arrest.

Doctor Harris Stratyner is the vice president of Caron Treatment Center and said heroin is particularly popular with wealthy young people.

"It's particularly popular with kids who have a few more bucks because it is not always the cheapest drug," Dr. Stratyner said. "We really have to send a message to our kids. Try life on life's terms. Try life straight and see how that feels before you start experimenting with things that can kill you."

Stratyner said he expects the best possible care will be available to Stephanie, given her father's vast resources.

Bon Jovi's fans were hoping for the best Wednesday night.

"He's a good dad, and seems to have a good mom and she's is going to be fine," Linda Pascale said.

"My impression is he is good guy and has finances for her to get her treatment," Lise Ring added.

There was no official comment from the singer or his representatives as they dealt with this family emergency.

Hamilton College issued the following statement: "In addition to violating state law, the actions alleged to have been committed by the students violate Hamilton College policy. The college is cooperating with the police investigation. Our first concern is always for the safety of our students. Out of respect for the privacy of our students and in accordance with federal regulations we do not discuss individual health or disciplinary matters."

Bon Jovi recently performed at a Hurricane Sandy benefit concert. He is scheduled to perform at a benefit concert for Hamilton in Times Square on Dec. 5.
