NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — It’s Cat Friday in New York City.
Not to be outdone by retail’s annual Black Friday, the ASPCA is offering “deep discounts” on cat adoption fees.
“Adopting a pet is kind of like a gift you give to yourself that just keeps on giving,” said ASPCA Senior Vice President Gail Buchwald. “A new TV or the latest kid’s toy can provide temporary entertainment, but bring home a pet and you’ll get a lifetime of joy.”
Cats over a year old will have their adoption fees waived, while kittens — ages four months to one year — will have an adoption fee of only $50. Normally, the adoption fee for kittens is $125.
All ASPCA pets are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
Those who adopt a cat will also receive a free cat collar, ID tag and a cardboard carrier.
The ASPCA’s adoption center on the Upper East Side has extended its hours for the big day and will remain open until 10 p.m.
