Zebra, Pony Spotted Running Through Parking Lot On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York can be a zoo sometimes, but that phrase took on a whole new meaning Wednesday on Staten Island.

A zebra and a pony were seen running down Victory Boulevard. Zachary Osher, owner of Metropolitan Drape & Blind, spotted the duo as they trotted through the parking lot of a shopping center.

"I couldn't even believe it when I saw it. They just came at me, I couldn't believe what was going on," he told 1010 WINS. "They were running all over the place."

Osher said the two left the parking lot and ran into the street where they almost got hit by a car. Seconds later, Osher said he saw two men in black suits running after the zebra and pony with lassos.

"They were running much faster than the two men who were running after them with lassos," he said. "I don't know how these guys could have caught them. They were like a herd galloping -- they did not want to stop."

The New York Times reported the animals belonged to a petting zoo.  Authorities said they were corralled and brought back to their owner Tuesday afternoon.
