Rat Spotted In Window Of Gourmet Shop On Upper East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A gourmet shop on Manhattan's Upper East Side had an unwelcome guest over the weekend.

Despite an "A" rating that is posted on the shop's front door, a rat was spotted in the window of E.A.T. on Madison Avenue and 81st Street on Sunday.

A photo published in the New York Post shows the critter walking on top of boxes of crackers and a video shows the rat scuttling through empty bread bins in the front window.

A passerby spotted the rat and informed the store's management who promised to call an exterminator, 1010 WINS reported.

Some customers were disturbed by the rat sighting.

"I would hate it, I'd walk out right away and not come back," one customer told 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa.

Others, however, seemed unfazed.

"In general I think it's clean," another customer said.

E.A.T. was founded in 1973 but Eli Zabar, youngest son of Louis and Lillian Zabar -- the founder's of Zabar's on the Upper West Side.

E.A.T. is not affiliated with the original Zabar's location.
