Ex-Jet Braylon Apologizes For 'Idiots' Tweet; Woody Favors McElroy?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Seahawks wide receiver Braylon Edwards had some strong words on Monday night for the powers that be in Florham Park.

The former Jets wideout tweeted his thoughts on New York's quarterback controversy, pulling no punches. At all.

"Don't blame Sanchez. I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots," Edwards wrote. "Mark is a beast and will (prove) it when given a proper chance."

He later apologized for the "emotional outburst" Tuesday afternoon via Twitter.

Sanchez was pulled late in the third quarter Sunday in favor of third-stringer Greg McElroy, who led the Jets to a 7-6 win over Arizona. Now the great quarterback debate -- which was limited mainly to Sanchez and backup Tim Tebow -- has a third party in the mix.

"Did the idiots throw the 3 picks Sunday?" one user responded to Edwards on Twitter. "Cause I swear it looked like Sanchez."

Wrote another: "How much will this tweet cost ya?"

On Monday, coach Rex Ryan declined to name a starter for the Jets' upcoming game against Jacksonville, saying he'd need more time to make a decision.

Woody Johnson is in McElroy's corner, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. The Jets owner was thought to be a staunch Tebow supporter, though there is some question about the wildcat specialist's health as he recovers from two cracked ribs.

"I'm told owner Woody Johnson prefers Greg McElroy to be starting QB," Mehta tweeted Tuesday. "GM Mike Tannenbaum & OC Tony Sparano prefer Mark Sanchez this week."
