Bronx Parents Upset Kindergarteners Being Told To Transfer Schools

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some parents of students at P.S. 340 in the Bronx are battling the Department of Education to keep their kids in that school.

Due to overcrowding in kindergarten classes, 20 students at P.S. 340 are being told they need to transfer to P.S. 310 in Marble Hill a mile away.

But some parents said their children are not going anywhere.

"You're going to stick a kindergartener, who has basically had hard time the first couple of day coming here being separated from their parents, and now you want to put them a bus," said one parent.

"Very, very emotional," said one woman whose 5-year-old is among those on the transfer list. "My son is confused. He doesn't even want to come here because now he feels guilty, like he did something wrong, 'why am I not being accepted here.'"

The DOE said it will provide a school bus for students to P.S. 310 and if there's room, those students will be allowed back into P.S. 340 next year.
