NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Ichiro Suzuki will again don the pinstripes next season, a source has told WFAN’s Craig Carton.
Though final details on the structure of his contract are still being hammered out, there’s no longer any doubt — Ichiro will be back with the Yankees.
WFAN and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman confirmed the news Wednesday morning on Twitter: “Ichiro will be a yankee.”
The sides are figuring out whether to make the deal for one year, one year plus a vesting option, or perhaps even two years, Heyman reported.
If he signs for two years, Ichiro would have a chance to reach the 3,000 hits milestone in New York. He has 2,606 career hits in 12 seasons.
Ichiro was traded to New York from Seattle last season. He averaged .283 with 178 hits and 55 RBIs in 2012.
The 39-year-old had a resurgent finish, batting .322 with 73 hits and 27 RBIs with the competitive Yankees.
Do you think Ichiro would get 394 hits to reach 3K with the Yanks if he signs a two-year deal? Be heard in the comments below…
