NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man was struck and killed by a city street sweeper early Saturday at the busy junction of Flatbush and Atlantic avenues in Brooklyn.

The man in his 40s, who remained unidentified as of Saturday afternoon, was struck around 1 a.m. Saturday at the junction, on the cusp of the Boerum Hill, Fort Greene and Prospect Heights neighborhoods.

Paramedics responded and took the victim to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police learned that he was struck by a New York City Department of Sanitation street sweeper that was headed north on Flatbush Avenue at the time.

The driver of the street sweeper remained on the scene. No criminality was suspected, and the investigation was ongoing Saturday afternoon.
