NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A 21-year-old man was killed early Saturday when his car struck a light pole in the Elm Park section of Staten Island.

Police responded around 3 a.m., after Jose Luis Arlequin lost control of his gray 1996 Honda while heading west on Richmond Terrace at Sharpe Avenue – near Faber Pool and Park.

Arlequin, of 166 John St. in Staten Island, slammed into the light pole and suffered serious trauma to his body. He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No criminality was suspected in the accident.
