Boy, 3, Found After Vanishing From Van In Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

UPDATED 01/01/13 12:42 a.m.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 3-year-old boy was found safe after disappearing Monday evening from Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

Police said at 11:41 p.m. that Makoto Maki had been found and was in good condition. Further details were not provided.

As CBS 2's Derricke Dennis reported, Makoto Maki had last been seen before 7 p.m. Monday. He was in the family's minivan, which has Massachusetts license plates, and was parked in the parking lot that connects the Queens Museum of Art to the Queens Theatre.

Police said his parents left him alone in the van to go and take pictures for New Year's Eve, and when they returned, he was gone.

Police were on the scene with his parents and a police translator, as the boy and his family speak only Japanese.

On Monday night, police were also canvassing the park as a helicopter searched from above.
