Nets’ Carlesimo: No Conversation After Blatche Questioned In Sex Assault Investigation
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo says he didn’t speak with Andray Blatche after the center was questioned in a sexual assault investigation Tuesday.
“I didn’t get into any of that with any — you know, my job is to coach the roster that Billy gives me,” Carlesimo told WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Friday.
CBS Philly, citing sources, reported that a 21-year-old female filed a complaint alleging she was sexually assaulted around 4 a.m. Tuesday at the Four Seasons. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Blatche was questioned, but the preliminary investigation showed he was “not personally involved. … He was there, but he was not involved.”
The Nets were in Philadelphia for a game against the 76ers. Blatche was active and played for Brooklyn after he was questioned by investigators.
When asked directly if Blatche approached him for a conversation, Carlesimo replied, “No. Uh-uh. We just — we went and played.”
When pressed, Carlesimo deferred to a statement made by general manager Billy King on Tuesday.
“Billy made the only comment our organization made about that or is going to make about it,” said Carlesimo.
A Philadelphia Police source told CBS 2 the alleged rape happened after Blatche and a friend spent the night at a gentleman’s club, leaving with two women and returning to the Four Seasons at about 2:30 a.m.
When they entered Blatche’s suite, the alleged victim was already there, having sex with one of his friends. When that ended, the source said she had sex with the other friend.
After that, police knocked on the door saying someone had reported a rape. The victim was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Ramsay told the New York Times that the accuser “was so intoxicated … she’s not going to be a very good witness.”
The accuser told a local Philadelphia television station on Wednesday that Blatche “was not oblivious” and said he “peeked in the room.”
On Thursday, Blatche said he was “not worried at all” about the investigation.
“Y’all going to hear the truth sooner or later,” he said. “It’s just a bad situation what somebody would say. But trust me, when the time comes and I can talk about it, everybody will realize it’s not what you think.”
Carlesimo said Thursday that the tough conversations usually fall on King.
“If something happens that I think you have to sit down and talk to him (about), a lot of that is stuff that Billy handles,” he said.
