SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Syracuse is retiring the jersey of former star Carmelo Anthony when the Orange host Georgetown at the Carrier Dome in February.

A large replica of Anthony’s jersey will be unveiled in the rafters of the Dome alongside nine other previously-retired uniforms. Anthony, now a star for the Knicks, will be presented a framed jersey during a halftime celebration.

Syracuse won the national championship in 2003 behind Anthony, who led the Orange in scoring (22.2) and rebounding (10). He capped his only season in college by being named the Final Four’s most outstanding player after leading the Orange past Texas in the semifinals and Kansas in the title game in New Orleans.

Anthony’s jersey will join those of Dave Bing, Derrick Coleman, Sherman Douglas, Billy Gabor, Vic Hanson, Billy Owens, Wilmeth Sidat-Singh, Rony Seikaly and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington.

Anthony, playing in his ninth NBA season, is averaging 29.3 points, 2.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds for New York.
