Wes Welker’s Wife Apologizes For ‘Irrational’ Ray Lewis Rant
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Remember when Tom Brady’s wife unloaded after the New England Patriots lost to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI?
This season it was Anna Burns Welker, the wife of Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct following New England’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game.
“Proud of my husband and the Pats,” Welker wrote Sunday night on her Facebook page. “By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”
She later apologized in a statement to sports site Larry Brown Sports: “I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.
“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”
Lewis is set to retire after the Ravens meet the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
Brady’s wife, super model Gisele Bundchen, popped off after last year’s big game, complaining about the play of New England’s receivers.
“You (have) to catch the ball when you’re supposed to catch the ball,” Bundchen said. “My husband cannot (bleeping) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”
Former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs issued an apology days later for saying Bundchen “needs to continue to stay cute and shut up.”
