Snow Sport Lovers Turn Out For Winter Jam

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The weather may not be so nice if you're trying to walk from Wall Street to Times Square in a windbreaker, but it was perfect Saturday for the annual Winter Jam in Central Park.

As 1010 WINS' Gene Michaels reported, Winter Jam was held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Bandshell and Sheep Meadow.

Snow Sport Lovers Turn Out For Winter Jam

It was Thea's first Winter Jam in Central Park. Michaels spotted her in the food area and asked what she liked.

"I've tried the cheese, and that was really good, and also over there, some more healthy stuff. And it's an awesome show as well," she said. While she has been skiing in her native Norway, she passed on it in Central Park.

But others took advantage of snow drifts measuring 8 feet high in some places for cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing lessons, and Quidditch lessons. The event also featured animal tracking with the Urban Park Rangers, a Pride of New York Winter Market, and even a special Doggie Snow Zone.

And in case you're wondering, no, Central Park did not get snow warranting 8-foot drifts during the brief snowstorm that left less than an inch in New York City Friday night. Most of that snow was imported and fired into the park with snow guns.
