Celebrity Architect Charged With Creating Child Porn Images

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An architect who designed fancy homes for Hollywood celebrities on the East End of Long Island was in court Monday to answer to child pornography charges.

Jay Lockett Sears, 73, was arrested last week on federal charges. He made his first appearance in court Friday in Central Islip, and another hearing was held Monday, according to published reports.

Prosecutors said Sears photographed boys and girls at high-society parties and then manipulated the pictures to superimpose the children's faces on the bodies of adults engaged in sex acts.

Prosecutors said Monday that the federal government will seek an order of protection for the young girls whose pictures were used to create the images, according to a Newsday report. Sears used a film camera for the photos and cut out the their faces from the prints to superimpose on the pornographic images, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper reported that Sears had designed homes for celebrities including Michael J. Fox, Susan Lucci and Clint Eastwood.

Sears was also the head of Mission for Kindness, an organization dedicated to helping needy families, the newspaper reported.

Prosecutors said in a court filing that the investigation began after someone found the pictures in trash being emptied at the Brookhaven Town Dump.
