Bacon, Ice Cream Top Sellers As N.J. Residents Prep For Storm

(CBSNewYork) -- With snow falling steadily – but not yet sticking to the roads – folks in New Jersey were racing to stock up on groceries at the last minute.

As CBS 2's Alice Gainer reports, two of the top sellers at one food store may surprise you.

Along with storm staples like shovels, ice melt and firewood, bacon and ice cream were flying off the shelves at Kings Food Market in Bernardsville.

"Bacon for the morning breakfast, and ice cream for in front of the fire," said Kings Market manager Frank Pershpalha.

Makes sense to us.

Other popular items were water crackers and Clif Bars.

Meanwhile, at the neighborhood Burger King, owner Paul Ioria said the fast food spot would see how long they could stick it out – but were putting the safety of employees and residents first.

"Maybe we'll try to make it until maybe 5:00, and get everybody home," he said.

Ioria said folks will be able to get their dinner from Burger King.

But at the rate this storm is moving -- we suggest you take it to-go.
