Body Washes Ashore In Breezy Point, Medical Examiner Working To Determine Cause Of Death

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Police are working to identify a body that washed ashore in Queens on Saturday.

Investigators spent the day near a playground in Breezy Point where a woman found the body near the water's edge, while she was out walking her dog, CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported.

Witnesses told CBS 2 that the body was fully clothed, but missing a shoe, she appeared to be a young woman with dark skin. It is possible that the woman has been dead for several weeks as the body is badly decomposed, according to investigators.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause and time of death, and to pinpoint how long the body has been in the water.
