Report: Jose Valverde Not Likely To Sign With Mets

Port St. Lucie (CBSNewYork) – It seems unlikely that the Mets will sign Jose Valverde, a team insider told the Daily News.

The three-time All-Star had a rough 2012 postseason with the American League champion Detroit Tigers, blowing leads against the A's in the ALDS and the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALCS (Ichiro, Ibanez two-run shots in the ninth). He has recorded 277 saves over a 10-year career with the Diamondbacks, Astros and Tigers.

Reports say the Mets are confident he will find another team.

Bobby Parnell was given the role of closer by Terry Collins last week in the absence of Frank Francisco who is rehabbing an injured elbow. Brandon Lyon also provides veteran experience in the bullpen and is expected to work as a setup man.
