NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A 76-year-old man was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Woodhaven, Queens, and the driver was arrested.

Not long before 4:30 p.m., John Eberling was crossing Jamaica Avenue at 80th Street in Queens, when he was hit by a maroon Nissan Pathfinder headed east on Jamaica Avenue, police said.

Eberling was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Pathfinder was arrested, but police did not say why. Charges were pending Wednesday evening.
