Teen Escapes From Custody On Staten Island, Spends Hours On The Lam

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 17-year-old boy was on the loose for hours Monday, after he escaped from police custody on Staten Island.

Romeo Stevens was later found and apprehended without incident.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Stevens was being driven to court by the New York Office of Children and Family Services when he escaped at Richmond Terrace and Wall Street, police said.

It was not until around 5:15 p.m. that police reported Stevens was apprehended without incident.

Police did not indicate why Stevens was initially in custody.
