NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Strong safety Charles Woodson was released by the Green Bay Packers on February 15, and the eight-time Pro Bowler is looking for a job.

Could he end up in New Jersey in 2013?

It certainly appears to be a possibility.

Both the Jets and the Giants, as well as the Seahawks and the Dolphins, have called to inquire about the 36-year-old, according to ESPN.com.

The Giants could definitely use some help on the defensive side of the ball, and the Jets might be looking for assistance if they end up trading superstar cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Though the Jets’ defense was very solid despite missing Revis for the vast majority of the 2012 season, LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell might leave via free agency, and reserve Eric Smith was let go recently in a salary-cap move. Depending on how free agency plays out, Woodson could be an intriguing option for head coach Rex Ryan.

Interest from the Seahawks also makes sense, as they have been reported to have interest in acquiring Revis from New York in an effort to bolster their defense.

The seven-time All-Pro moved from cornerback to safety in 2012, but was bitten by the injury bug. In his 15th season in the league, the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year missed half the season after suffering a broken collarbone.

In just seven games played in 2012, the 6-foot-1, 202-pounder recorded 38 tackles, a forced fumble, 1.5 sacks and an interception.

The former Heisman Trophy winner was selected fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft. He played with Oakland until 2005 and then signed with the Packers in 2006, where he won Super Bowl XLV in 2011. In his stellar career, he’s amassed 719 tackles, 17 sacks, 24 forced fumbles, 55 interceptions and 12 touchdowns.
