Greenpoint Residents Upset After Group Of Sex Offenders Move Into Nearby Homeless Shelter

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Many Greenpoint residents are upset after a group of sex offenders listed a nearby homeless shelter as their residence.

Six sex offenders are now living at the 200-bed homeless shelter at McGuiness Boulevard off Clay Street, 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer reported.

At least two of the registered sex offenders have previously been convicted of molesting children.

"That's disturbing news, that's not good," one woman said.

"I don't like it," one man said. "I hope these guys close it up."

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeless Services said they are legally required to house the homeless regardless of their criminal background.
