NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Is Darrelle Revis Tampa Bay-bound?
The Buccaneers have become major players in the sweepstakes for the Jets’ star, according to multiple reports.
The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that the Jets are “poised” to trade the NFL’s top cornerback “in the coming days at the right price.”
And it seems that there’s at least one legitimate deal out there. New York has a “good” offer on the table for Revis, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Could that offer be from the Bucs?
Jeff McLane, who covers the Eagles for The Philadelphia Inquirer, tweeted on Tuesday night: “I’m hearing CB Darelle Revis will be traded to the Bucs. Details just need to be ironed out.”
McLane quickly amended his statement, tweeting: “Clarifying my earlier Revis tweet: Nothing is done yet. But I’m hearing that Bucs are the likely landing spot. Don’t want to jump the gun.”
Revis has been rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered early in the 2012 season. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season if he doesn’t skip any mandatory team activities.
He’ll be looking to sign one of the NFL’s most lucrative contracts for a defensive player — something Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly isn’t willing to offer.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Jets general manager John Idzik hasn’t given Revis’ agents the go-ahead to talk with clubs wondering whether the cornerback is healthy and willing to be more than just a one-year rental, hindering potential deal-making.
The Jets and Revis’ representatives “haven’t talked for weeks,” and there “has been almost no contact” between Idzik and the four-time Pro Bowler, Yahoo! Sports reported.
Tampa Bay has more than $30 million in cap room and could use a significant boost in its secondary.
If the Jets do ship Revis to Tampa Bay, what must Idzik get in return? What would be a sufficient haul? Sound off in the comments section below…
