Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing iPhone From 3-Year-Old Boy In NYC

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man is under arrest for allegedly stealing a smart phone from a toddler.

Kira Talley, 36, was enjoying an afternoon of shopping in Greenwich Village with her 3-year-old son Aidan on Sunday.

The Lodi, N.J. woman was looking at some shoes as her son quietly played a game on her iPhone about three-feet away from her when she said a man snatched the device from the boy's hands.

"Aidan said, 'Mommy, he took your phone,'" Talley said. "I was within arm's reach, literally could reach out and touch him and it happened so fast."

Within seconds, the man was out the door.

Talley and other customers gave chase, but she said "he was gone, he was like lightning."

The Find My iPhone app tracked the device to the Bronx and police later arrested 53-year-old Feliberto Ramirez, 1010 WINS' Steve Sandberg reported.

Thankfully, Aidan was unharmed, but Talley still worries about what could've happened to her son.

"You can't ever be too close to them; within arm's reach and I feel like I was a million miles away because I wasn't close enough to prevent it," Talley said. "You kill yourself with the could've, would've, should've. He could've hurt my son or he could've snatched my son and been gone."

Ramirez has been charged with grand larceny and his bail was set at $10,000, the New York Post reported.

Talley had a message for the suspect: "Pick on somebody your own size; to be a 53-year-old man and be snatching things from 3 year olds, it's just not a fair fight."
