Police Seek Thief Who Stole Woman's Pocketbook At Queens Mosque

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were asking for the public's help in finding a thief who stole a 65-year-old woman's pocketbook as she prayed at a mosque in Queens earlier this month.

The incident happened at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The woman was praying at the Islamic Center of Queens, at 57-16 37th Ave. in Woodside, Queens, when the man surreptitiously came up and took her pocketbook.

The woman's cash and bank cards were inside, police said.

Police have released a surveillance photo of the alleged thief.

Anyone with information in regard to the grand larceny is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS, submit tips to the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
