Rangers Fall To Washington Capitals 3-2

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Rangers lost to the Washington Capitals 3-2 Sunday night, as the Capitals' Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin scored in the shootout and regulation.

It was the second straight loss for the Rangers.

Braden Holtby made 30 saves in regulation and overtime and curtailed three of four Rangers' efforts in the shootout as the Capitals extended their winning streak to three.

Arron Asham and Derek Stepan had the Rangers' goals in regulation and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 shots.

Ovechkin scored in the second round of the shootout, only to see Derek Stepan tally for New York to knot it at 1-1 after three rounds.

After Holtby denied Brad Richards, Backstrom beat Lundqvist to decide the contest in the fourth round.
