Teenage Girl Charged With Setting Extra-Alarm Fire In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenage girl from the Bronx was charged Sunday with setting her building on fire after an argument with her mother – leaving six firefighters injured and several people homeless.

The fire broke out Saturday morning in the building on Cedar Avenue in the University Heights section of the Bronx. It was raised to the three-alarm level.

Authorities said the young woman – identified as Princess Martinez, 19 – set fire to a mattress in the six-story building.

The six firefighters were treated for minor injuries. No residents were injured, but several were displaced, including Metropolitan Opera singer Andrey Namzer, according to a New York Post report.

Martinez was charged with second-degree arson.
