Man Charged With Stabbing Woman To Death In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 44-year-old Brooklyn man was charged with murder, after a woman reported to be his girlfriend was found stabbed to death.

Alex Santiago, of 336 51st St., in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, was charged with murder, police said. Published reports said he stabbed himself after allegedly killing the woman.

Tara Beardsall, 31, was found in the suspect's apartment at 10:28 a.m. Saturday. She had been stabbed in the neck, and was pronounced dead a short time afterward at Lutheran Medical Center, police said.

Police said Santiago was in front of the apartment with a stab wound to his neck when officers arrived. He was also taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition, police said.

A source told police that the couple had gotten into a fight and that the man stabbed his girlfriend, before turning the knife on himself, according to a New York Post report this past weekend.

The couple is believed to have had a history of domestic violence, the newspaper reported.
