UNION CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A Union City, N.J., man stood charged Monday with coercing a 15-year-old Minnesota girl to pose naked over a webcam.
Daniel Derringer, 24, was arrested at his home on Sunday, according to the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office. He was charged with manufacturing and possessing child pornography.
Prosecutors said Derringer initially pretended to be a 15-year-old girl himself on an unspecified social networking site, and persuaded the girl to take her clothes off on webcam as he recorded her acts, according to an NJ.com report.
Later, Derringer contacted the girl as himself on his own webcam, and threatened to publish the earlier images on the Internet unless she took her clothes off and touched herself, the publication reported.
The Minnesota girl contacted police, who found Derringer thanks to a cell phone picture of his face she took of her computer screen, the publication reported.
Derringer was being held Monday afternoon on $100,000 bail. His attorney, Stephen McCarthy, said his client has pleaded not guilty.
