Yankees' Mark Teixeira Expects To Swing Soon, Is 'Getting Better Every Day'
CLEVELAND (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said he expects to be cleared to begin swinging the bat as he recovers from a wrist injury.
Teixeira, one of four New York stars on the disabled list, has been sidelined since early March with a torn sheath in his right wrist. Before the Yankees concluded their rain-shortened series with the Indians, Teixeira said he will be examined Friday in New York by Yankees hand and wrist specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser. Teixeira expects to take "dry swings" before the series opener against Baltimore.
Teixeira said he is "getting better every day. There's no pain. I could not be happier with the progress."
Teixeira, who turned 33 Thursday, said his rehab program is on schedule. The two-time All-Star expects to progress from dry swings to fungo bats to soft tosses in the next week.
Derek Jeter, another prominent Yankee on the DL, took batting practice and ran for the second straight day on Wednesday.
