MINNEAPOLIS (CBSNewYork/AP) — Spring usually means baseball and warm, sunny weather.

Baseball, yes. But warm, sunny weather? Not so much these days.

The Minnesota Twins are trying to not let a spring snowstorm prevent them from playing the New York Mets this weekend at Target Field.

About five inches of heavy, wet snow fell Thursday in the Twin Cities area, and a crew of dozens worked throughout the morning, afternoon and evening to remove snow from the seating bowl and other areas at the ballpark.

Twins President Dave St. Peter said work would continue overnight if necessary. He said the team was confident the playing surface would be “major league ready.”

The Twins were scheduled to host the Mets in games Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. St. Peter said a postponement decision should be made by mid-day Friday. The forecast high temperature is 36 degrees, with more precipitation possible.
