Jenna Bush Hager Gives Birth To First Daughter In New York City

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, gave birth to her first child in New York City this weekend.

The former president announced the birth of his first granddaughter in a statement Sunday. The baby girl, who was born Saturday, is named Margaret Laura "Mila" Hager.

Jenna Bush Hager, 31, is a contributing correspondent for the "Today" show. She is married to Henry Hager, the son of former Virginia Republican Party Chairman John H. Hager.

The former president said the baby was named for her grandmothers.

President Bush said he and former first lady Laura Bush met their "beautiful granddaughter today," adding, "Jenna and Mila are healthy. And our family is elated."

Bush Hager told People Magazine that her father, who has taken up art in his post-White House life, already has prepared three paintings for the baby – a portrait of the Hagers' cat, Bernadette, to place above the crib; landscape featuring a "baby tree" from his Texas ranch; and a still life of the ranch's stone cross where the Hagers were married in 2008, CBS News reported.

"Mila" is the second great grandchild of former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara. Jeb Bush Jr.'s wife, Sandra, gave birth to George Helena Walker Bush in 2011, CBS News reported.

This is a big month for the family. The George W. Bush Presidential Center will be dedicated April 25 on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
