Latest Trends And Styles On Display At International Beauty Show
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Hair pros from around the world were converging on the Jacob Javits Convention Center this week, getting schooled on all the latest styles and trends.
As CBS 2’s Janelle Burrell reported, whether you’re going for something edgy or for a more traditional ’do, it is sure to be on display at the International Beauty Show.
“There’s a lot of stuff for you to see; just that it’s so short,” said hairstylist Audrey Wood. “It should be for a week.”
Wood made the trip all the way from the Caribbean, coming from Jamaica to attend the convention. It features about 500 exhibitors, and is open only to professionals.
There are plenty of demos and a lot to learn, including a new tool called the Mira-Curl by Baby Bliss Pro. The tool sucks your hair up on its own, and seconds later, straight hair becomes curly.
“It’s pretty amazing, because it takes all the work out of it,” said Albany hairstylist Kim Lansing.
And one trend that has yet to go out of style is hair extensions. Numerous colors in a variety of styles were on display, sure to meet just about everybody’s needs.
“Spring, summer is about multi-texture,” said John Blaine, creative director for Obliphica Professional.
Blaine is a renowned stylist to stars, including Ben Affleck, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey. He said this season is about allowing your locks to be more natural.
“You just style your hair the normal way you want to, but don’t necessarily blow it out all the way straight,” Blaine said.
The key to achieving that goal, Blaine said, is products with all-natural ingredients.
“Our main core ingredient is the buckthorn berry,” he said. “It’s a fruit that’s found 14,000 feet in the Himalayas.”
Hair pros said the products, tools and techniques on display at the show make a difference, and will ensure you and your mane are stylish for the summer.
The International Hair Show – again, open only to beauty and spa professionals – runs until Tuesday.
