Former Rep. Anthony Weiner Releases Report On Preserving Middle Class In NYC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner is continuing his effort to rehabilitate his public image – and possibly burnish his credentials for a potential return to politics.
Weiner released a 21-page document explaining his public policies. Weiner characterized the document as a blueprint for keeping New York City the capital of the middle class.
It’s pretty much a rehash of a booklet he handed out five years ago in anticipation of run for mayor, which was scuttled due to the scandal that caused him to resign, 1010 WINS reported.
“To maintain New York’s place as the capital of the middle class, and to keep the promise of prosperity for generations to come, we must meet today’s challenges with fresh ideas. Bold ideas. Substantive and practical ideas,” Weiner wrote.
Among the new ideas in the booklet are a city-run single payer health care program, a requirement for sex offenders to wear GPS tags, and a British House of Commons-style question time for the mayor.

Last week, Weiner fueled new speculation that he may seek a return to politics in a lengthy profile in the New York Times magazine.
“Anthony’s been a friend for a long time,” former MTA chief and Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota told WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb. “I’m looking forward to engaging him in a vibrant debate about the issues. I think he raises the level of debate all way around, and I encourage him to enter the race.”
Weiner said he would talk more to reporters at some point this week.
