Kat Von D Out To Prove She's More Than Ink

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- She's a tattoo artist, the star of LA Ink, a New York Times bestselling author -- oh, and she also has a clothing line. Like the title of her new book, Kat Von D knows how to 'go big.'

She launches her book tour for her latest work, Go Big or Go Home: Taking Risks in Life, Love, and Tattooing, in New York on Monday. She'll  be meeting fans and signing copies of the book on Monday at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Union Square.

"I've always been an open book," she said. "I think that a part of me, growing up, I felt like an outsider or alone in some ways. I always felt like if I shared even the bad stuff, the faults not just the good stuff, that people can relate."

Many folks were first introduced to Kat Von D through reality television, but she says among all her projects, she's not sure she'll do another series.

"I just want to do stuff that inspires people, or puts goodness into the world," she said.

She said she thinks she'll be surprised when people realize how "deep" she is."

"Whether it's through tattooing or through makeup or fashion, these are all forms of self expression," she said. "To me, art has been my best friend, all my life. It's saved me from myself so many times."
